Window on the World

By , November 14, 2019

This morning, Michelle and I shared a particularly interesting discussion. She observed, “I have learned more about the world since we moved to this tiny cabin in the forest on the edge of the ocean, than I learned in my previous 40 years.”

I thought about it, we talked it over, but as soon as she said it, it seemed obvious to me. Perhaps not so obvious was why this might be so.

Garden Conference Report

By , February 25, 2018

The 2018 Southeast Gardening Conference did not disappoint (see Southeast Garden Conference 2018 ). About 120 people attended from Ketchikan, Petersburg, Sitka, Haines, Skagway and Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada.

Speakers ranged from a Haines locavore, Rebecca Brewer, who chronicled her year of eating locally to the keynote, Jeff Lowenfels, with information about soil microbes and how to team up with them to grow a better garden.
