Becoming “Aware”

I recently read a very interesting article from The New Yorker called The Glossary of Happiness by Emily Anthes. It came to my attention because of our interest in adapting and cultivating the Danish concept of Hygge (see Hygge). Or, perhaps more appropriate considering my Dutch extraction (among many other bloodlines) we should work toward gezellig, a little easier, and perhaps more fun to say. I learned this term, similar to hygge, from the article.

The article tells of The Positive Lexicography Project, Doctor Tim Lomas’s effort to catalog foreign terms for happiness related concepts that may have no direct English translation.

Stormalong

The recent windy weather continued through Monday before dying down to reasonable winter wind levels (see Stormy Start to the Year).

Ironically, this period of high wind meant low power for us, even when the storm winds blew the weather sunny.

The dead mother board in our wind generator’s controller hasn’t been much of a problem for us, but it does require us to shut down the system if the wind gets to high (see Wind Generator Problems, Yet Again). Without the circuit board, the generator won’t power itself down when it reaches the set level of charge, so we risk burning it out.

Today, I’m headed over to another homestead on the bay to troubleshoot a controller problem there. I understand I might get a used replacement board out of the job, which we would install on our controller as soon as possible.

In the meantime, the power supply’s down to about 75%! The solar array bumps this figure up a few points during the brief sun window we get this close to the winter solstice, but it’s a net loss. That keeps me from writing much at present.

Luckily, Aly got out on Sunday and took these great photos of the water. Enjoy!
