One particularly nice feature of our area at this time of year is the dwarf dogwood in bloom. Also called bunch berry, the forest floor becomes carpeted with simple, white blooms among the green foliage.
At many places along the trail dogwood covers the ground. Come autumn, the leaves will turn scarlet, and the blossoms will become bright red clusters of berries. It’s a beautiful way to mark the passing of time, the changing of the season.
