KTOO’s “Telling Tales with Ms. G”

Back in September, I visited a public radio show in Juneau. I wrote about it then, but because the program on which I appeared didn’t get posted on the station’s Web site, I held off. Instead, I leapfrogged to the next event in that chain, which was Shy Ghosts Dancing on KTOO’s “Telling Tales with Ms. G”. Recently, I received word that the show had been posted, so here’s more about it:

As I wrote in the earlier post linked above, toward the end of September, I went to Juneau for some medical errands. While there, I stayed with my friends, Bill Merk and Beth Handley.

Bill had a date to promote an upcoming open mic showcase on Ms. G’s Telling Tales, an evening program on Juneau’s public radio station, KTOO, with some other poets. He invited me to go with him.

I’d intended to watch from the background, but Bill talked me into participating as a writer.

What a great time we had! As it turns out, I recognized Ms. G from when we both worked in the mental health field years ago. She’s a lot of fun, on air and off! The other poets, Erika Bergren and Naawéiyaa Tagaban, were personable, and their poetry amazing. I finally got to hear Bill read his own work, which is even better than reading it on the page.

Your can hear the program here. I particularly liked Naawéiyaa Tagaban’s Poem 3.17.2017—I am such a sucker for irony!

You can also see Erika Bergren in the Doubleclick’s music video, Juneau (it includes a couple of naughty words, if that sort of thing bothers you).
