Thank You for Smoking

By , December 17, 2016

We maintain a strict non-smoking household. Michelle has reacted so badly to cigarette smoke throughout her life, that we just say, for the sake of simplicity, that she’s allergic to it. Psychologically, she could well be. This has never been an issue here. We have very few local friends who smoke. I don’t think any of them smoke in their own homes, let alone anyone else’s.

Ironically, while we forbid tobacco smoke, we welcome incense into our home, particularly at Christmas time.

Decorating for Christmas on Saint Nicholas Day

By , December 6, 2015

I’m late and brief posting for the blog today, because Michelle and I are lighting the cabin and putting up our Christmas tree!

This activity may make which ever day it falls on the most nostalgic day of the year. So, since today is also Saint Nicholas Day (see Saint Nicholas Day, December 6th) I thought of a gift we made for family five years ago, a Zeiger Family Homestead version of Clement Clarke Moore’s A Visit From Saint Nicholas. We all collaborated on the text, and Aly illustrated it. If I had to chose a favorite illustration, this might be it.

Now, back to work! The homemade wine’s just about mulled, the Christmas music is on the stereo, and it’s getting dark.
