Monthly Movie for January

Here’s a new project I hope to pursue this year.

I want to shoot a short, 30-60 second video of the homestead’s view every month, hopefully from the same spot on the beach. Here’s my first effort, for January:

We never seem to get enough of this view, so why not sweep the vista once a month, for those who can’t come here and see it for themselves? There’s no plot, no drama (intentional, that is; I would love to see a whale surface right in the middle of one of these shoots, but that’s not likely) just the same view, as the seasons, light, weather, and sea conditions change.

Next month, I’ll try this using a different camera. The one I used for this video didn’t have real good contrast, so the same view, which I took later in the day, had some spectacular sun on the mountains. It looked similar to, but better than the photos in the last blog post (see Taking a Moment to Look Around). But, I couldn’t get the light balance right, nor could I tweak it enough before uploading. So, we shall see.

With luck (or, more accurately, attention to detail on my part) I’ll post a video each month. At the end of the year, maybe I’ll splice them together into one video.

You can find this video along with the handful of other videos I’ve posted from the homestead, on our YouTube Channel.

Taking a Moment to Look Around

Tonight is Twelfth Night, the end of our Christmas season. Time to pack away the decorations, lights, music, and movies.

In the meantime, Nature’s putting on its own light show, as our weather transitions from cloudy to clear and cold.

Another unknown, possibly unnamed peak in our view. This one probably does have a name, likely a border marker between Alaska and Canada (Photo: Mark A. Zeiger)
