Prime Time!

Tuesday evening, just about 7:00, I stepped outside and found the sky alight. We saw one of the best aurora borealis displays we’ve seen here. As a bonus, we didn’t have to get up in the middle of a freezing cold night—it was an after-dinner show!

I took some pretty satisfying photos, the best of which are posted here. The exposures showed an incredible, almost lurid lime green light. I reduced the saturation about 40% to get the green glow we actually witnessed.

Tuesday’s aurora forecast from the University of Alaska Geophysical Institute was “low.” Wednesday night, the aurora was forecasted to be “medium.” At about 8:00 p.m., we got another, better show.
