The Zeiger Family Boatbuilding Page
Construction continues . . .

We built the mast hollow with plywood and fir sides, and a spruce core from the base to above the pivot. I filled it with crumpled aluminum foil to turn it into a giant radar reflector.

I used every clamp I had,
and temporarily screwed down what I couldn't clamp.

I have a lot of extra blocks
from when I planned to use a junk rig, so I put one in the mast head instead
of a dumbsheave.

The mast pivot.

We named the boat Selkie.
We found a font we liked and printed it out in 4" letters (350 point).
We poked around the outline of each letter with a sharp object and positioned
the sheets on the boat. We blotted with a marker around the holes, creating
the outline of the lettering. Michelle then painted in the letters freehand.
We're very pleased with the result!
Note the yuloh pivot in
place.
Selkie revealed!

Selkie's sticks and
leeboards are in place!
On June 30, 2001 we launched Selkie. At that point we still needed to install flotation cushions as backrests in the cockpit, add electricity and electric running/anchor lights, and minor adjustments to the rigging.
