Drought Busted

By , June 17, 2019

You know your region needs rain when no one complains that a steady drizzle started minutes before the start time of one of the town’s biggest outdoor meals of the year.

Saturday, as we hiked out to attend the annual Fisherman’s Barbecue, the rain began. The forecast had said that we might get rain that day up until about 4:00, so we noted the irony of the timing.

In true Southeast Alaska fashion, the event went off with no hitches. In fact, we agreed among ourselves that we had the most fun at this year’s event than we’d ever had.

Goodbye Blue Sky

By , May 20, 2018

Oddly, Pink Floyd has provided the soundtrack of my life recently. Today, the song, Goodbye Blue Sky* runs through my head. Our fair weather has turned to rain.

We’ve had gloriously sunny, warm weather for a while, as we feel we deserve in May (see Confessions of a Squeaky Wheel). It lasted long enough for me to buck up a big fallen birch, and to help a dear friend honor her recently passed dog companion.

She held a street fair to remember her dog, Suki, with treats for humans and dogs. We sat in the sun and visited, remembering Suki, and spoiling the dogs that attended. Suki was a guest on the homestead in the past (see Puppy Camp). We’re going to miss her a lot.
