For Halloween: My Own Personal Horror Show!

Don’t even think about looking for photos here . . . .

When I got the call that my FIT test indicated I should go in for a colonoscopy, I swore I’d keep it to myself. After all, better humorists than I have written better essays about the procedure than I ever could, particularly Dave Barry (see A Journey Into My Colon—and Yours! from the Miami Herald).

What could I possibly add to that? Except this: the essay first appeared 9 years ago. A loved one recently got her colonoscopy, and, on a whim, wrote to Mr. Barry as instructed in the essay. All these years later, he’s still mailing certificates to people who get colonoscopies!

But I digress. Where was I? Ah, yes. The Horror . . . .

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! We’ve grown to love the view from our main cabin window, with the silhouette decorations my father created more than 50 years ago, set against the cherry tree in the yard, that always turns yellow by this time of year.

We expect a single trick-or-treater today, sometime in the midmorning, so she can cross the bay before the high tide in time to trick-or-treat in town.

That means we’ll have the evening to ourselves. We’ll likely have colcannon or witches brew for dinner, hopefully with pumpkin pie, and maybe watch a seasonally appropriate movie.
