Monthly Movie for January

Here’s a new project I hope to pursue this year.

I want to shoot a short, 30-60 second video of the homestead’s view every month, hopefully from the same spot on the beach. Here’s my first effort, for January:

We never seem to get enough of this view, so why not sweep the vista once a month, for those who can’t come here and see it for themselves? There’s no plot, no drama (intentional, that is; I would love to see a whale surface right in the middle of one of these shoots, but that’s not likely) just the same view, as the seasons, light, weather, and sea conditions change.

Next month, I’ll try this using a different camera. The one I used for this video didn’t have real good contrast, so the same view, which I took later in the day, had some spectacular sun on the mountains. It looked similar to, but better than the photos in the last blog post (see Taking a Moment to Look Around). But, I couldn’t get the light balance right, nor could I tweak it enough before uploading. So, we shall see.

With luck (or, more accurately, attention to detail on my part) I’ll post a video each month. At the end of the year, maybe I’ll splice them together into one video.

You can find this video along with the handful of other videos I’ve posted from the homestead, on our YouTube Channel.

Mark, Thank you for sharing the awesome video! What a beautiful view…I would love to wake up and drink my morning coffee watching that view unfold..can’t wait to see the homestead each month. Great idea!

Looks just like I remember from our visits quite a few years’ back. Love the idea of a short video. When you can please include the house, outhouse and trails on the property….all are just as beautiful as the canal and mountains. You are indeed blessed and living my dream.
Keep up the great work and please give our best to Michelle and Aly.

Good idea, John and Mary, I need to shoot more video of the place than just that one view.
