First Friday Featured Artist at Alaska Rod’s

Downtown Haines holds its March First Friday on the 2nd, and I am Featured Artist at Alaska Rod’s on Main Street.

I’ll be there as both author and soap maker, signing my two books, Sacred Coffee: A “Homesteader’s” Paradigm and Shy Ghosts Dancing: Dark Tales from Southeast Alaska, and displaying our homestead made soaps.

Come to think of it, if we’re bringing the soaps into it, I should try to talk Michelle and Aly into “featuring” with me, as we make the soaps as a family most of the time.

Alaska Rod’s sells a lot of local art, books, exquisite custom handled knives, great T-shirts, and are the only retail outlet for our soap. They also make and sell their own fudge!

I’ve done this before, back in 2016 (see Social Butterfly?) but that time I shared the spotlight, as it were, with Dena Selby, a photographer and author friend. This time, looks like it’s just me!

Haines First Fridays are a lot of fun. I rarely attend them, as I’m either at home, or tied up with other projects elsewhere in town (one of our performances of The Lion in Winter happened on a First Friday evening). They’re fairly low key, but it’s an evening chance to visit galleries, museums, and shops around town, see friends, and rub shoulders with some of Haines’s many artists. Both the Haines Brewery and the Port Chilkoot Distillery have featured artists, and a lot of the other galleries serve hors d’oeuvres and wine. Some months, it can turn into quite the party. There will be treats at Alaska Rod’s. I think last time they had no-bakes, if you know what those are. I remember having a very hard time not eating them all.

If you’re in town, please stop by! It will be nice to see you.
