To Remake a Bed

While I have been staying over at the cottage for several months now, it’s been more like camping, because I’ve slept on the guest mattress that’s lived over there for many years.

At the end of October, we changed that. We dismantled my homemade bed frame from the cabin for reuse in the cottage.

We needed to make two alterations: First, we shortened the legs to fit my lower ceiling but retain airflow under the bed. Next, once we’d reassembled the frame in the cottage, we attached the slats to the frame. For years, these floated free on the frame, sometimes shifting to inconvenient places. Now they’re secure.

We made the move and alterations in an afternoon. That night, my cat, Spice, and I spent the night in our new single bed.

Reducing from the double to the single gives me a bit more space, which is always a premium in my tiny cottage. Now I can wedge in another book shelf or two!
