Human Hamster Balls

Before we went to Wrangell (see “Old Homes Week”), I found the Wrangell Chamber of Commerce vendor map on line, showing what booths would be where on Wrangell’s downtown streets during the celebrations. When I saw an area marked “Human Hamster Balls” I knew we’d have to check it out.

If you haven’t seen these before (which we hadn’t) human hamster balls are clear, inflatable vinyl balls into which a person can climb, be sealed in, and set loose in an inflated pool enclosure with other likeminded and equipped individuals. It’s way too much fun!

When we decided to go to Wrangell, we resolved to spend generously at the downtown booths, most of which are run for charities or other worthwhile organizations. One of the local churches hosted the hamster balls, and we gave generously, with each family member trying it. We went in pairs so that the other two could take photos of the action in the pool. These are some of the best.

If you ever see this activity offered anywhere, try it! As one of the staff said to someone in the crowd, “When will you ever get another chance to do this?”
