New Tenants

To our surprise, someone finally showed interest in a rental property we’ve had “on the market” for several years. A family of chickadees moved into one of the two bird houses we put up around the property.

The one they chose perches above the garden. We”re pleased to see any kind of bird using the shelter, but we’re especially excited to host chickadees. They’re voracious insectivores that feast on mosquitoes and biting flies that swarm around us as we work in the garden. Besides, they’re pretty cute.

We discovered them about the time their eggs hatched and the chicks began to make noise. The young seem to have fledged and moved out of the nest already, but chickadees live here year ’round, so there’s a good chance that we’ll have returning tenants next year.
